For the professional, or at least experienced chef, all the tools they’ll ever need are the basic ones.  I’ve been cooking for the better part of my life (hard to believe) and when I’m presented with a contraption that chops, dices, or slices, I proudly stick my nose high in the air and calmly state that I’ll pass.  Why?  At the end of the day they’ll slow me down and just add another item to the “to be washed list”.  But, that being said, anyone without the acumen to Julienne a pepper, or get out of the kitchen without a nice gash in their hand, I say “have at it”.  And that’s exactly how I feel about this new apparatus from the folks at Quirky, the Glide.

Now, keep in mind that Quirky has only said that they’re making it, which is to say they have yet to divulge or determine the price.  Nevertheless, you can shoot over to the product page and tell them just how much you’d pay, which means you might get it for more or less.  The way the Glide works is comparable to that of sliding your finger over the knife to remove the food debris that doesn’t fall back onto the cutting board.  It fits over the top of the blade and features and ergonomic finger grip.  When you’re done chopping, you simply slide it down the blade and push the excess herb, or garlic off.  An ancillary benefit is that you don’t have to muck up your fingers with that wonderfully fragrant garlic smell, though in my book that’s all part of the cooking experience.  Again, this would prove to be a major hinderance to the real chef, but anyone moonlighting as the home’s fulltime cook might take enjoyment in the Glide.
