Ever disagreed with the direction your favorite TV show is moving? New massive multiplayer video game Defiance, from Trion Worlds, challenges you to not complain, but change it! Your gameplay can affect the way subsequent episodes in the companion TV show will roll out. Interesting, no?

This is transmedia on a whole new level. The impending TV show Defiance, shares more than a few similarities to the acclaimed Firefly sci-fi show. But Defiance the show boasts some crucial inter-connectivity with Defiance the MMO game for PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Below is a teaser for the live action show on SyFy.

The core game is online and set amid an open-world modeled after a futuristic San Francisco. Thousands of players can choose to play as a human or alien in the perpetually evolving online world. You can march on solo or with close comrades. Your success and failures will alter the content and direction of the Defiance TV show on SyFy. It all sounds like an incredibly ambitious undertaking with endless pre-planning and forward thinking.

More power to them. If they can nail this… If the show is quality and worthy of investment in the game… If the infrastructure and pre-planning hold out… That’s a lot of “ifs”. But stranger things have happened in this industry.

Trion Worlds states:

“Players who participate in Advanced Mission Beta 1 will have full access to the tutorial, the expansive terraformed terrain of Mt. Tam, the Waterfront competitive multiplayer map, and the fierce Shadow War open world competitive multiplayer and Arkfall massive co-op boss battles.”
