I come from a long line of backwater country boys with southern sensibilities and a “hands-on, do-it-yourself” mindset . So while I toil daily at a desk, my heart is outside. My wife and I love the outdoors and our daughter soaks in outdoor events like some mythical river sponge. But there is one thing she love most of all about the elements and that’s snow. Being from Indiana, I have a love-hate relationship with the lovely and infernal wet white powder (see? ).
But Dakine, outdoor gear and apparel masters, have something new to melt away some of the rigors of Old Man Winter. It’s their Dakine Utility vest. This thing is really targeting skiers but really anyone can enjoy. The Utility Vest is meant to partially replace a bulky backpack and fits quite snug for the same reason, to reduce your chance of snagging yourself on a tree branch or such while careening down a ski slope.
The Utility vest weighs only 2 lbs and is said to fit all sorts of outdoor tools and utensils. Geerjunkie reports from the OR Trade Show stating the Utility Vest can store, ” shovel, radio, hydration, ski skins, and other necessary equipment for backcountry skiing adventures.”
