Sometimes I’m disgusted with my sedentary ways. Regardless, I still have a hard time unstrapping myself from the couch. Course, that might change if I know my physical, or more importantly my cardiovascular system was slowing degrading.
Enter the Tinke, an iPhone device that plugs into your iPhone 4s’ 30-pin connector (sorry iPhone 5 owners). Working in tandem with an accompanying app, you simply place your finger on the sensor, where upon its optical sensor reads your blood volume changes in the fingertip, which is then translated into a number that reflects oxygen levels in your blood. And while the Tinke system can’t improve your health directly, it can compare your score over days and weeks, allowing you to keep tabs on heart and cardiovascular health. Put simply, it’s like a weight scale for your cardio system, which is only useful if you’ve actually got a goal in mind or a threshold for success or failure.
The free app can also track stress and the rhythm of your heart to better help you manage your health. Much like other health systems of a similar ilk, such as the FitBit or Withings scale, there are social aspects to the app, though don’t expect these stats to be as engaging as the number of steps or stairs you climbed.
