Sonos Updates iOS App, Now Streams Music Directly from the Handset
I love, love Sonos. It may not be the best in terms of sound quality, but its versatility and convenience is unparalleled.
Furthering the company’s quest to dominate homes, they today updated their iOS app, which is effectively a remote control – it’s really the only remote control that you should use to control a Sonos system. In addition to steaming tunes from Pandora, MOG, Spotify, and just about all the major music apps available for one’s consumption, you can now stream tunes directly from your iPhone. Make no mistake, you’ve long been able to stream music stored in your iTunes library, provided you had a computer online and running, or a NAS connected hard drive. This new iOS app feature allows you to playback music directly from the device, so if you’re lucky enough to have a 64GB iPhone stuffed full of high quality music, then you’ll be fortunate enough to playback a good chunk, if not all of your music library without depending on a cloud based music service, a computer, or a hard drive.
To get the update, simply download the latest Sonos iOS app and make sure you’re running the handset’s latest software iteration, iOS 6.0.
