  1. Hey this is a really detailed article – would love to see an updated version of this to include all the news ones over the past year etc.

    • Don’t think it was out at the time of writing – haven’t checked I might be wrong .. The new ottorbox defender and new life proof etc are also relatively new additions to the case market.

  2. Kristie, thanks for the article. The site for LifeProof claims that the case enhances the sound of the speakers. Did you find that to be true? Any comments re: sound on any of the other cases? (Nice pic of you too, by the way.)

  3. At a certain point the protective cases become a bit overkill. Certified by the Department of Defense? I like the Case-Mate Xtreme case since it doesn’t add all that much bulk but will still protect my phone when I drop it. Maybe I’ve just lived in the city for too long…

It should protect your iPhone from occasional drops, but it probably won’t take a bullet or a drop higher than 6 feet.

      • I currently use the Case-Mate Xtreme and it is amazing! I have dropped it ton of times, but the worst one was I dropped it from the top of a wooden stair case all the way down to the concrete at the bottom. I wouldn’t purposfully run it over with my car or anything.. but for any type of drop test it is the perfect case. especially for the size.

    • I use the Case-Mate Xtreme and have dropped my iPhone 5 from waist high or so several times and it has protected my phone well. It is one of the thinner/lighter “full protection” cases I have found to date that isn’t exorbitantly priced.
