Urban Shredder: Skateboard Meets Motorcycle Meets Serious Roadrash

In the “Christmas Story” there are many lessons to be learned.  And while the biggest take away for us was don’t stick your tongue to a frozen pole, most would agree that buying a BB Gun for your kid is just asking for trouble.  The same should be said for the Urban Shredder.

The Urban Shredder is an accident waiting to happen.  Participants don’t stand on the device.  Instead they lay face down, something analogous to that of an inverted luge.  Turning comes by way of a set of handles that reside to the left and right of the head, and a 250-watt electric motor running on a pair of 12-volt DC batteries powers it up for up to 1-hour at 10-mph on a single charge that takes 12-hours to complete.  Stopping happens courtesy of a handbrake, where as acceleration is influenced with a twist-grip throttle. Clearly it’s not a one size fits all toy, especially at a price of $380 – that doesn’t include any protective gear, just a measly safety flag.  However, Toy R’ Us says that there is an  adjustable foot/knee deck and the 8″ pneumatic rear wheel that provides “a smooth, comfortable ride.”
