AT&T this morning announced that their latest Windows 8 phones will begin to go on sale this month. These include the Nokia Lumia 920, the Lumia 820, and the HTC 8X.
The Lumia 920 is probably the most anticipated of the devices thanks to an advanced camera system that Nokia has dubbed Pureview. In addition to taking in 5 times more light than a standard smartphone camera, the lens boasts optical image stabilization, a first on a smartphone. The result should be 8-megapixel clear free photos in scenarios that would otherwise be rendered blurry. The Lumia 920 goes on sale (preorder) November 7th for $99.99 on a 2-year contract, with shipping commencing on November 9th.
Nokia’s less powerful Lumia, the 820 has similar looks to the 920 yet won’t sport the same imaging technology. Instead the 920 will snap 8-megapixel photos, which can viewed on its 4.3-inch Clearblack display. Battery capacity tops out at 1650mAh, 350mAh less than the Lumia 920. Nokia’s spec sheet lists the 820 with a dual SIM card slot, though we’re not entirely sure if we’ll see that on AT&T’s version when it goes on sale on November 9th for $49.99.
Although we don’t know what date the HTC 8X will ship, we do know that it will cost $199.99 on contract when it goes on sale before Thanksgiving, provided you opt for the 16GB version – the 8GB costs $100 less. AT&T has managed to obtain exclusive color rights for this handset, Limelight. The 4.3-inch 720p HD display, 2.1MP wide angle front facing camera, and an 8-megpixel shooter with a 2.0 f-stop round out the feature set of this Windows 8 phone.
