Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled their 2014 SLS AMG Black Series that will go on sale in June 2013. Like other Black Series models, this one has more power, decreased weight and improved aerodynamics thanks to a number of modifications. Under the hood is the same V8 6.2-liter engine that can now rev to 8,000 rpm and push out 622 hp compared to the regular SLS AMG GT that only produces 583 hp. The new model also sports a new air intake, camshafts, improved oil and water cooling and additional pressure tweaks. Because of the increased power and decreased weight, 0.2 seconds have been slashed to its 0-62 mph time, which is now 3.6 seconds, en route to a top speed of 196 mph. It’s able to return 17mpg and has O2 emissions of 321 g/km.
For its design, the SLS AMG Black Series borrows some styling cues from the GT3 version, with 20mm and 24mm wider front and rear tracks, respectively. It has with 20-inch lightweight forged alloy wheels with standard carbon ceramic brakes. Its front splitter, side skirts and the large rear diffuser are made from carbon fiber, while the latter incorporates the quad tailpipes, while the titanium-made exhaust system weighs about 37 pounds.
There’s also an optional carbon fiber aero pack that includes an adjustable rear wing and front dive planes which should create more downforce and improve high-speed stability, while an adaptive sports suspension and launch control are also part of the package. The interior has a carbon center console and lightweight sports seats, as well as an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel.
