Performance is always of paramount concern. So when words and phrases like “clean burning”, and “diesel” reverberate off my ear drums I shutter with a little bit of fear. Fortunately, Audi’s line of TDI clean diesel vehicles are an exception to the rule, that is assuming you wanna call the above a rule.
The German Automaker made it known today at the 2012 LA Auto Show that a grip of diesel burning models will be making their way to US shores. This will include the Q5, A6, A7, and A8.
The A8 TDI will be the first of the four to make its debut in the US when it hits dealers this Spring, with an estimated 24MPG city and 36MPG highway. Horsepower registers at 240 ponies, which is reported to produce a 0-60 run time of just 6.4 seconds from the diesel V6. I’d expect the same from the A7, and perhaps from the A6, though Audi has yet to disclose those tidbits of what I’d deem very necessary info.
Nevertheless, I sat in the A7 TDI and was astonished by the wood trim, which is also available in the petrol powered version. It’s something akin to that of a spa. Take a look for yourself. I’m not sure I’ve ever witnessed such opulent and carefully crafted wood inlays. That said, I don’t know if I would want it in my car since it’s a bit much, but there is no disputing the craftsmanship. Now, only if they could achieve a comparable paint job.
