In our every growing digital world, it’s no surprise that we have a hard time keeping track of our written notes and just about anything paper oriented.  While the LiveScribe Sky WiFi Smartpen won’t be able to keep tabs on your paperback books, it will help you organize all of your hand written notes along with audio in one succinct manner.

What separates the Sky WiFi Smartpen from other transcribing pens of this ilk, is its ability to record audio simultaneously.  Useful if you attend meetings and would like to jog your memory as to why you drew a monkey and not a gorilla during your weekly meeting – just simply tap on the portion of the drawing and the audio playback will skip back to that point.

The Sky WiFi Smartpen will come in three sizes (2GB, 4GB, 8GB), though all transcriptions are automatically sent to Evernote, a OCR app that now boasts 40 million users. So what’s that storage for?  All of your audio recordings.   The 2GB version stores 200 hours, the 4GB 400 hours, and the 8GB 800 hours; 100 hours for each GB of storage.  Pricing starts at $170 for the smallest of the pens, and tops out at $250 – the highest end model includes a 1-year subscription to Evernote Premium, a $45 value.

The Livescribe pen includes a built-in OLED screen to display battery life, the time, and the WiFi connection.  A Livescribe specific notepad is required, and includes a set of faux buttons to star/stop recordings, as well as setup the local WiFi connection.  Each Livescribe Notepad ranges in price from $12 to $25.

Starting sometime next year you’ll be able to send notes directly to Dropbox, Facebook, and Google Drive.  However, all models of Livescribe’s Sky WiFi Smartpen are available now, with the 8GB premium pack exclusively available at Best Buy.
