We’re always on the lookout for the perfect house to store all our gadgets. And we might just have found it.
The Cove 3 house, by SAOTA and Antoni Associates, is nestled in the cove at Pezula Estate outside Knysna, on the West Coast of South Africa. Needless to say, the home’s design offers seamless views of the ocean and most of its surroundings thanks to the heavy use of glass. But they didn’t just choose any glass. It’s design to minimize the negative effects of direct sunlight. It also helps that they performed a “solar analysis” to eliminate direct sun on the building. Furthering the building’s eco notability is a huge underground cistern under the garden terrace to collect rainwater, while a heat pump and underwater floor heating system are designed to conserve energy.
Traveling from room to room – which mind you is finished in a variety of materials including concrete, steel, and wood – comes by way of a spiral stair case that extends from the master suite to the lower lower levels, which contains the guest bedroom, home theater, and living room. Next to that are are two children’s rooms.
