Verizon’s iPhone 5 Will Not Support Simultaneous Data and Voice
Yes, the iPhone 5 went on sale today. However, you might have pulled the trigger a bit too quick. Why? Because, we’ve learned, by way of the The Verge no less, that Verizon and Sprint’s version will not, we repeat, WILL NOT support simultaneous data and voice.
Now, to be clear, Verizon will continue to support simultaneous data and voice on their other phones, including the iPhone 4 and 4s. However, the iPhone 5 has been excluded from this feature. For most this may not seem like a massive caveat, that is until you try to make a telephone call and pull up directions on Apple’s handset all at the same time.
That all said, AT&T has confirmed that their customers will continue to be able to surf and talk at the same time, though the iPhone 5 will default to AT&T’s older network, as oppose to drawing data over LTE. And to be clear, AT&T’s older network still offers comparable speeds to that of LTE, at least for the foreseeable future. So for now it’s a none issue.
So which carrier will you be choosing?
