Charging a handset through magnetic induction is an old trick that has been rehashed again and again.  Case in point is PowerMat, which broke on the scene a few years ago.  Unfortunately, the system requires a rather bulky case for anyone bringing an iPhone into the mix.  Plus its functionality was limited to simply charging.

Magnetyze isn’t a drastic departure from the PowerMat line of products, but it does eschew its singular functionality by providing not only power to your handset, but a variety of stands that make the tech both applicable and very sexy.  First off, the case for the iPhone appears to be slim and trim.  The real bulk comes in the 30-pin dock connector, where as the magnet has been sleekly embedded into the backing, creating a svelte case that is designed to stand up to the rigours of every day use.  Second, the charging mat’s functionality does double duty as a stand.   And because the Magnetyze system uses magnets, you can rotate the iPhone 360 degrees in either direction.  This makes it ideal for the car, which comes in the from of its very own stand, as well as a wall mountable travel AC plug that discreetly applies itself to the wall.  And if the included USB cord or charger is connected to a computer, you can sync in addition to charge your iPhone (or Android device).

Needless to say, we dig the sleekness and utility that Magnetyze offers.  Get them for the whole family, leave the chargers scattered throughout the house and you’ll never look for another charger  They offer a starter kit for $70.  However, keep in mind that the iPhone 5 will be out in probably 10-15 day’s time, which means you’ll either want to wait or simply upgrade the case when available, which shouldn’t be too expensive..
