The iPhone 5, needless to say, is the biggest piece of rumors news related to Apple. However, one of the lesser talked about stories is if they’ll discontinue the iPod Touch…maybe. Sure, it still fulfills a segment of the market, albiet a small one, but it’s clear that their bread and butter is the iPhone and the iPad. That said, Samsung has no intentions of following suit, that is assuming the aforementioned rumor is true.
Yesterday, the company announced the Galaxy Player 5.8. It’s effectively a larger version of the Note sporting a 5.8-inch, versus 5.3-inch screen. Specs include a 960 x 540 display, 16GB or 32GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, a front facing camera, Android 4.0, GPS, WiFi, a 2,500mAh battery, microSD card slot and Bluetooth 4.0. iPod Touch comparisons in mind, Samsung has decided to not include a high rez back camera, and they still haven’t disclosed the processor. All together it’s not that remarkable of a device and without a 3G connection you’ll need to be in proximity of a WiFi connection, otherwise that 5.8-inch screen will be good for looking at cover art.
It’s not clear if the Galaxy 5.8 will make it Stateside, especially in light of the recent lawsuit between Apple and Samsung. And for now, there is no word on a price.
