Do you remember the NeoGeo? It was an excessively expensive home gaming console that boasted 24-bit graphics, and as far as we were concerned was the holy grail of video game systems. It’s just too bad that it cost over $600, and the games, well they were at least $100 a pop, at least. That said, it was the only system at the time that had arcade worthy graphics, though looking back that statement is now a bit questionable.
Well if you never had the chance to score your very own Neo Geo, good news. SNK Playmore will release the Neo Geo X Gold to commemorate the video game console’s 20th birthday. But instead of a console, this gaming system will arrive in the form of a handheld. It will cost $200, and will include an oversized arcade joystick, which you can plug into the dock that connects to your LED TV. The handheld features a 4.3-inch LCD, a game card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and comes preloaded with 20 games including Fatal Fury, King of Fighters ’95, and more.
Unfortunately, we don’t know the release date, but we’re hearing you can expect it sometime this December.
