Watch The LaCie RuggedKey USB Stick Fall 100m and Survive (video)
How far would you go to sell a USB stick? In Lacie‘s case they’re willing to jump out of an airplane at 400m. Their latest USB stick is rated for the most extreme of scenarios, though it can’t survive a dip to the bottom of the ocean. Nevertheless, it’s tough as nails as proved by this video, which shows a skydiver dropping the USB stick from 117m to the ground. Needless to say it survives, otherwise they probably wouldn’t post the video.
In addition to surviving a 100m fall thanks to that familiar orange rubber housing designed by Neil Poulton, the LaCie RuggedKey is IP-54 rated. That means that it withstand extreme cold and heat, dust, as well as a rather generous garden hose. To top this off Lacie has has included “full throttle transfer speeds,” otherwise known as USB 3.0, and AES 256-bit data encryption so even if you do lose it during a skydive your data and pictures will be safe from prying eyes.
The Lacie RuggedKey is available now in 16GB and 32GB capacities for $39.99 and $69.99 respectively.
