Real Life Hot Wheels Double Loop is a Success (video)
This past Saturday, every adult’s childhood dream of a real life Hot Wheel double loop finally came to fruition. Okay, we’re exaggerating – we we’re only lucky enough to brandish a single loop experience during our Hot Wheels days.
Nevertheless, this double loop measured 66-feet tall and was set along a track that spanned two football fields. The drivers, Tanner Foust and Hollywood stuntman Greg Tracy set a world record when they traveled through the track completing the double loop simultaneously at a speed of just 52mph. And while that speed is anything but heart racing, consider the force on their bodies, which exceeded 7Gs, and you’ll begin to respect the accomplishment these drivers were able to achieve. According to Foust, in order to avoid passing out, he had to ”grunt, tighten your core and try to make your eyeballs and veins pop out,” a strategy that is often used by fighter pilots in extreme maneuvers.
That all said, this record wasn’t an overnight success. It took 1-year of planning and practice to shatter the previous world record holder for the largest loop in a car, which happened September 24th by Chinese driver Li Yatao in a Lotus 5 Sportback for Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile Co., Ltd. in Shanghai.
