Comic Con is underway so it’s only fitting that we’ll see a slew of news worthy comic related posts this week. First in line, and rightfully so, is the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One Box set. It’s nothing short of impressive. But if this is a bit too rich ($TBD) and complicated for your blood you can always opt for the Planet Earth Blu-ray Box set or the Walking Dead Box set, both of which incorporate thematic elements into their design.
In addition to 10-discs, you’ll find a glowing Tesseract, which if you recall is an ancient Asgardian artifact of ultimate power. Johann Schmidt, played by Hugo Weaving in “Thor”, harneessed the power of the Tesseract to create super weapons that disinigrated anyone that stood in his way. This movie prop won’t do any of that, but it might convince your 10-year old brother that you can lay a serious smack down on him if he doesn’t cough up his lunch money. Also included are The Avengers; Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, as well as Blu-ray versions of Iron Man; Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk in exclusive collectible packaging. There are also some sort of top secret disc, movie art, classified crap – ultimately some stuff that will take a significant back seat to your movie watching. Heck, the metal suitcase might be the coolest thing about this Blu-ray box set.
Unfortunately, there is no word on price, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One Box set will launch concurrently with the Avengers movie on September 29th.
