Wind is vital to a many a sport. Sailing probably takes the cake when it comes to wind speed and direction. But you can’t always depend on a weather vain miles away to give you accurate readings. God knows that our forecast here in SoCal is anything but accurate.
Enter the Shaka Wind Meter. It’s a tiny fan like apparatus that plugs into the headphone jack of the iPhone. Working with an accompanying app, it can tell you the current wind speed simply by holding it into the wind, where upon you can share that data with friends, and just about any one that wants to have a look at the crowd sourced map. And for the sake of history, the app will catalog all of your past measurements, which includes wind speeds, direction, as well as temperature.
So next time you plan to sail the high seas for a weekend getaway, launch a recently completed model RC plane, or simply fly your trick kite high into the sky, we suggest you grab one of these. Course, we don’t know when it will go on sale, but expect it to cost $60.
