Jawbone pretty much set the benchmark when it comes to portable, bluetooth speakers. We’ve said that many a time. However, their Jambox, which still kicks ass to this day, along with its larger version, isn’t the rugged beast some folks require, especially those camping or traversing the hilly terrain of the Himalaya mountains.
Enter Philips SB7200 ShoqBox. In many ways it’s just like the Jawbone. But this portable speaker has been specifically designed to take a beating, meaning it can withstand drops as well as the occasional splash of water. Under the hood are 2x + 2 wOOx drivers powered by 8W of power. If that isn’t enough oomph for your tunes, you can pair it with another ShoqBox and needless to say double your output with a stereo pair. Other features include 8 hours of playback on a single charge (the Jambox is 10 hours), a built-in USB cable for charging, a microphone for taking calls, voice feedback, and a motion sensor for controlling tracks.
If the the SB7200 isn’t enough output to your liking, there is also the 7300, which boasts 12 watts of power, 4 drivers with Neodymium magnets for deep bass, and is finished with real aluminum materials, custom metal grille pattern and large metallic volume knob.
The SB7200 sells for $179.99, while the SB7300 retails for $20 more.
