FiOS Quantum Adds 300Mbps Download, Fastest in the US, Costs $210
Holy speeds Batman! Yesterday, Verizon added a new tier of service to what is the now rebranded FiOS Quantum. The telecom now offers a new tier of service that provides a download speed of 300Mbps and upload speed of 65Mpbs. Using FiOS’ handy chart, they say you can download an HD movie (5GB in size) in just 2.2 minutes, though you’ll need to find a source that can keep up.
Nonetheless, other tiers still exist, starting at 3Mbps down and 1Mbps up. However, according to The Verge, some prexisting subscribers are getting the shaft in terms of pricing. Those at the 15/5 tier will now have to pay $10 more per month for the same speed, where as those in the middle tiers or higher will enjoy almost double the speeds for an additional $10-15 a month – a caveat we’d be willing to make, that is if we could actually get FiOS in our neighborhood.
Anyway, if you sign a 2-year contract you’ll get a $5 discount per month on all tiers, which equates to just over 2% of the initial cost for those that subscribe to the 300Mbps package.
