BattroBorgs: Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em ROBOTS with a Wii Controller
Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em robots are a pretty tired affair, at least in terms of gaming evolution. But one could say the same for Hot Wheels, LEGOs, and a few other iconic brands. So that might explain why the concept has never disappeared from toy shelves and soon we’re gonna get an updated version that mimics the movie “Real Steel” starring Hugh Jackman.
The BattroBorgs, unlike their brethren of the 70s and 80s, aren’t controlled using a simple set of buttons and wires. Instead, they’re moves are carefully orchestrated using a set of Wii like controls that require you to physically box your way to success. The detailing on the bots appears to be no joke, which includes an LED on the bots back that indicates the amount of head shots received. Obtain ‘red’ and your KO’d, though a few hits are allowed in between that will have you morally stung. Charging, which comes by way of the controller, takes about 20 minutes and provides up to 10 minutes of battle time. A total of 20 bots can battle simultaneously, which is supported by the BattroBorgs 2.4ghz wireless connectivity.
The BattroBorgs will arrive in Asian markets July 14th for about $50 each in four colors: “Star White”, “Mars Red”, “Earth Blue”, and “Cosmic Black”. Also available is a ring for some added scratch. Takara Tomy says we can expect them in the US sometime by the end of the year, though no specifics have been provided.
