Mercedes-Benz has killed its SLS AMG and created the SLS AMG GT to take its place. They’ve just released info on its 2012 SLS AMG GT model and how they plan to offer both a coupe and roadster version that will go on sales in mid-November of this year.
The new model will feature the same 6.2-liter V8 from the current SLS model, but they’ve added 20 hp more, so its output is now 583 versus the 563 of the outgoing model. Its new 0-60 mph time is 3.6 seconds (versus the before 3.7 seconds). The top speed is still electronically limited to 197 mph as the current model. Other than its powertrain, Mercedes has also given the new GT model a reworked its adaptive performance suspension, riding on stiffer springs and dampers that have been more aggressively tuned. It still sits on 19-inch alloy wheels up front, wrapped in sticky 265/35-series rubber, while 20-inch rollers are found at the rear, wearing even stickier 295/30-series tires.
The interior has been modified with the introduction of a new Designo style package that’s optional and comes in three different color combos in both single- and two-tone finishes. It also features only the finest leather surfaces with contrast stitching and a diamond quilt pattern on the seats and doors. Other optional additions include: carbon fiber parts for both the interior and exterior, carbon ceramic brakes, a Bang & Olufsen sound system and different wheel options.
