Volkswagen has decided to give its iconic Golf GTI an open top with the Golf GTI Cabriolet that was first seen at the Geneva Motor Show. The convertible that features an electric soft-top, air conditioning, electric windows, an audio system and a roll-over protection system, will begin arriving at dealers in mid-June.
While it may sport some good looks, its 207-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is creating a buzz. The most powerful Golf Cabriolet ever accelerates 0-to-62 time of 7.3 seconds before topping out at 147 mph, while still being considered the being “the most economical model in its class.” The convertible also features Exterior GTI trademarks like its red-framed radiator grille with honeycomb structure and GTI signature, the front GTI bumper, a new rear diffuser, chrome tailpipes, LED rear lights, side sill extensions and standard 17-inch ‘Denver’ alloy wheels. Inside, the convertible is identified as a GTI by its sport seats upholstered in classic ‘Jacky’ tartan fabric.
