Project Sea Lion is World’s Fastest Amphibian Vehicle (video)
Marc Witt’s Project Sea Lion has been named the world’s fastest amphibian vehicle after he entered it in an unofficial competition for the world’s fastest amphibious “land speed” vehicle. The idea for the prototype first came about in 2006 and was designed using CAD software and various and spread sheet calculations. The design is created from a clean sheet of paper, and was calculated to exceed previous speed records. Back in 2006 when the project was first started, its top water speed was 45 mph, while its land speed was 125 mph.
Built from,TIG welded 5052 Aluminum constructed from CNC plasma burned shapes and other CNC milled components, the winning prototype has the same land speed from 2006, but its water speed has risen to 60 mph. It features an integrated monocoque welded uni-body center section, some removable side pod and front and rear fenders.
