Porsche has announced that it’s currently testing its 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid prototypes. The car as certainly involved since we last seen it flex its 770 hp and has emerged as a head-turning high-performance vision of efficiency. It’s designed as a plug-in hybrid vehicle combining a high-performance combustion engine with cutting-edge electric motors for extraordinary performance. It’s still pushing out more than 770 ponies,while fuel consumption in the region 78 miles/gallon.
The $845,000 beast combines a combustion engine with electric motors to achieve that consumption rating, and sports a carbon-fiber reinforced-plastic monocoque (self-supporting) shell, rear-axle steering and that unique upward-venting exhausted system. In the process, the 918 Spyder is offering a glimpse of what Porsche Intelligent Performance may be capable of in future.So far, Porsche mentions that the 918 Spyder is scheduled for initial production runs starting in September 2012, with first models making their way to customers later that year.
