You’re set to head out for the day and suddenly your iPhone case breaks. If you’re like most iPhone 4s owners, you’ve come accustom to carrying Apple’s handset with a case attached. Without it, it feels a bit like driving without a seatbelt; you just feel like you’re gonna get in an accident.
The Cube is a WiFi enabled 3D printer. You read that right. It starts at $1,299 and includes 25 creations right out the box. Some 3D model examples include an iPhone case, a sandal, bracelets, knobs and other assorted items that may or may not have any utility. Fortunately, you can create your own models using the included software and print them out in variety of colors (10 in total). Replacing an empty print cartridge looks ultra simple and you can print object that are up to 5.5″ x 5.5″ x 5.5″.
The Cube, from Cubify, will start shipping on May 25th, 2012. Just keep in mind that $1,299 gets you the printer only. Nevertheless, the thought of being able to print your own objects at home, without much tech knowledge, and at this price, is pretty astounding. Sure, $1300 ain’t a drop in the bucket, but it’s a step in the right direction.
Grew up back East, got sick of the cold and headed West. Since I was small I have been pushing buttons - both electronic and human. With an insatiable need for tech I thought "why not start a blog focusing on technology, and use my dislikes and likes to post on gadgets."
