Most movies turned video games suck.  They’re designed to cash in on the advertising money that is already being spent on the film and the result is usually piss poor game play mixed with half way decent graphics and a set of movie characters that are forever tarnished in our mind’s eye.

That said, the newest Star Trek game, which isn’t set to release until 2013, is looking to hold up to the latest reboot by producer, director and all together wiz kid J.J. Abrams.   And yes, this iteration of the game has been built around that very movie, which should see a sequel during the same year.

Unfortunately, the above video is cut very much like a movie trailer, so it’s a bit difficult to garner a true understanding of what the game will offer.  But we do know there will be a coop mode, you’ll be able to play Spock or Capt. Kirk and that the game is being developed by Ontario-based Digital Extremes (Bioshock 2, Dark Sector, The Darkness 2) for the PC and consoles.
