Robotic Extension Cord Winder

Extension cords are a dime a dozen, no question about that.  Having one that extends the length of your garage at a moment yanking, sans cord tangle, is a different story.

The Ceiling Mount Cord Reel isn’t just a garden variety extension cord.  In addition to being a storage system for a 50-foot, 12-gauge extension cords it includes a motorized winder removing the hassle of wrapping up the cord after each use.  But that’s not all this orange plastic globe has to offer. Inside is a monitoring thermostat. If it detects temperatures above a certain threshold, as in fire hazard, it will automatically shut down power.  The same feature applies if the cord is severed preventing electrocution.  Step on it during the winding process and it will automatically disengage so the motor doesn’t burn out or you don’t end up like a trapped wild animal hanging above your work bench.

The whole setup is designed to wind over 10,000 times and the exterior is resistant to chemicals, gas and oil.  We’re assuming there is a remote button for winding, though there is definitely one on the unit itself.  They’re including a bracket so you can hang it any where you desire, even horizontally since it is self leveling.  Lastly, the winding process slows at the end to ensure you don’t get whipped in the face from a flailing extension cord – that could leave a mark.

Sounds pretty neat, right?  Too bad it’s $399.  Good thing the extension cord is user replaceable if and when it breaks.
