IKEA may be known for their cheap and chic furniture, but now they’re moving into the realm of electronics with the announcement of their “Uppleva” all-in-one TV and stand that puts the TV right into the furniture. Built in co-operation with China’s TCL Multimedia, Uppleva not only incorporates a TV right into the stand, but also a Blu-ray / DVD player and surround sound (with wireless sub woofer). The Uppleva’s focus is all about the ease of setup and access. You can customize it if you want, but in the end you take home one box and that’s it.
TV sets will come in 24, 36, 40 and 46 inches and all are LED backlit. They’ll also have a brace of USB inputs and four HDMI ports (so you can re-add in some wires), plus FM radio and Internet connectivity and “smart TV” features like the Opera browser (except the basic 24-inch model). Customers will have three different TV bench designs in six different finishes to choose from. Sales will begin later this year, with prices said to start at about $960.
