In less than 2 month’s time, Star Wars would have debuted in movie theaters 35 years ago. Yes, it’s been that long since this iconic space saga began. It’s hard to believe that a 35-year old film still out classes the newer, more expensive ones. But lets face it, sometimes old is better than new. And to commemorate this momentous occasion in movie making history, Lucas will release two collector item Droids.
For some, these may not be the Droids they’re looking for, as they have no moving parts and stands at 1/35 to scale of their original. However, they’re are cast from material that makes them appropriate for any collector’s bookshelf. Each statue will be limited to a 35 unit production run, weigh 35 grams and yes, will release on the 35th year of the Star Wars release, May 25th, 1977. The R2D2 will be made from sterling silver and cost $1,600, while the C-3PO version, which is made from pure gold, will run $6,000.
