Smartphone and tablet headsets are generally single-ear Bluetooth headsets, made for telephony only. There are few headphones actually made for these smaller computing devices. Users can choose between an unlimited selection of standard wired headphones or an equally limitless choice of stereo Bluetooth headphones, most of which are designed specifically for exercise. What about just a standard, everyday wireless headset?
Logitech brings exactly that with the Wireless Headset (model:981-000381), named aptly for its very traditional use. The Wireless Headset is a simply designed on-ear headset, with rotating and moving cans that provide excellent comfort and a slim, lightweight build that barely stresses the wearer. I’ve tested the Wireless Headset for the past few weeks and it’s remarkable in one way: it takes everything user’s need and want from a full-size smartphone or tablet headset and performs well in every area. From sound quality to comfort, the Wireless Headset is exceptional.
I’m particularly impressed with three parts of the Wireless Headset. First, the build is expertly crafted, simple yet sustainable and strong. The cans fold for easy storing and carrying, and the buttons are all on the right can for easy access. Second, the sound quality is superb, especially considering the low price. For $70, perfectly clear audio that’s excellent for the vast majority of music and apps is an unexpected yet brilliant feature. I played a handful of games and a number of videos and music across several devices, and am still impressed with the excellent audio.
Third and finally, the Wireless Headset uses a rechargeable battery that lasts for around six hours of continuous use. It charges through any MicroUSB cable, like nearly all smartphones, making it even more travel friendly and convenient to use.
There’s only one missing component to the Wireless Headset: a carrying case. This collapsible headset would benefit immensely with a case designed just for it, and for an extra $5-$10 it would still be an excellent purchase. Yet even without a perfectly-sized bag Logitech’s Wireless Headset is the new standard for Bluetooth Headsets in the home or office setting. The white shell may appear made specifically for Apple devices, but any Bluetooth-ready phone or tablet will be hugely complemented with this excellent accessory.
Bottom Line: The best on-ear Bluetooth headset to date. It would be perfect (and receive our highest rating) if it came with a carrying case. Otherwise a stellar accessory.
- Excellent design; solid yet collapsible
- Comfortable for hours even as an on-ear headset
- Excellent sound quality for telephony, music, and apps
- No included carrying case
Spawned in the horrendous heat of a Los Angeles winter, James was born with an incessant need to press buttons. Whether it was the car radio, doorbells on Halloween or lights, James pushed, pressed and prodded every button. No elevator was left unscathed, no building intercom was left un-rung, and no person he’s known has been left un-annoyed.
