In addition to announcing the iPad 3 and a new Apple TV, Apple today released iOS 5.1. The biggies are Japanese language support for Siri (queue the viral videos), a lock screen camera shortcut that is now always visible (before you had to double click the home button to access this) and a 4G network indicator for AT&T customers when they have HSPA coverage.
Smaller updates, though still notable include camera face detection that highlights all faces, a redesigned camera app for the iPad, Genius mixes and Genius playlists for iTunes Match subscribers, optimized audio for TV shows and movies played on the iPad (louder and clearer), bug fixes for battery life and a bug fix that resolves occasional dropped audio on outgoing calls.
To download iOS 5.1 follow these simple steps (you’ll need to be connected to WiFi and have more than 1GB of storage available on your iPhone):
- Unlock your phone (duh)
- Head to Settings
- Once in settings choose GENERAL
- In GENERAL select the second menu, SOFTWARE UPDATE
- Finally, click DOWNLOAD and INSTALL.
