LG Mobile and Verizon announced the arrival of its Spectrum smartphone at CES, which will be a Verizon exclusive beginning January 19 for $199.99 with a new two-year customer agreement. The Spectrum is being touted as the first smartphone for Verizon to have a 4.5-inch True HD In-Plane Switching (IPS) display, which is the same technology used in LG HD TVs. Adding to the Spectrum’s HD capabilities is HD exclusive access to the ESPN ScoreCenter application, including ScoreCenter stats, images and videos in 720p HD.

The new smartphone will support 1280 x 720 resolution and provides bright and sharp images with its 500-nit display luminance and Real-Stripe RGB pixels that allows clear viewing direct sunlight and accurate true-to-life color rendering. A Qualcomm 1.5 GHz dual-core processor will power the LG Spectrum, while Verizon’s 4G LTE connectivity provides robust power, multitasking and download speeds. It’ll run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread (it’ll upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich when available) and is preloaded with a variety of apps like Netflix, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk and more. It has an internal 16 GB microSD, but can be upgraded to 32 GB and a boasts a 8-megapixel rear-facing autofocus camera with LED flash and 1080p video capture, along with a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chat.
