Today, Facebook rolled out a new feature called Timeline. It’s a completely new layout that allows you to organize and present your [Facebook] life as you see fit all the while being organized in a sequential order (as you post it). It starts with something called a “cover,” which is effectively an oversized picture the represents you – a profile pic with a bit more pizazz. Next, you can share and highlight your most unique stories and events in your life, as well as post memorable photos that tell your story from “beginning to end” – a feature button lets you expand a post to the full width of the window. You’ll also be able to convey your “likes,” places visited and so forth in your timeline, so your friends can see where you’ve been and what you’ve been up to. Apps, which are a big part of the Facebook, have also be added to the fold and will be integrated into your Timeline as you use them. So if you take a run, watch a movie, play a game – all of your friends will be able to see when you’re doing this.
We’re testing the Timeline feature out right now. It’s not completely clear how to modify the layout, but there are still the traditional options available that have long existed on Facebook.
So how do you get timeline? Simple.
1. Just go to the Timeline Intro page.
2. There you can activate your Timeline layout with a push of the button. Feel free to checkout the video and features by scrolling down through the sample page. This way you’ll know what you’re getting into.
3. Next, you’ll be able to preview the new Timeline feature. You’ll have up to 7-days to play with the features and get your page looking the way you’d like. After 7-days it will automatically roll over from private to public. However, if you’re of the advantageous type, you can activate it now by hitting the “Publish Now” button.
