Russound AGO1 AirGo Powered Outdoor Speaker

We loved, loved the Play:3, which actually might be an understatment. Unfortunately, they have yet to design an outdoor version, though you can rest assured that we’ve sent them a few emails demanding with this request as well as spoken directly to their PR team regarding this matter. So until Sonos gets on board with our product design team, we might just have to opt for Russound’s AGO1 AirGo Powered Outdoor Speaker.
Now, don’t get too excited, because its functionality is anything but that of the Play:3. However, it can stream tunes wirelessly from any Airplay compatible device, which we haven’t seen before in any other outdoor speaker system. You’ll of course need a power source to juice the speaker’s built-in amp, which ain’t no thing, especially when you consider that you have to bring your own Airport Express, that is assuming you want to enable its wireless functionality. But once it is installed in the back of the AGO1, it will be protected from the elements and extend your home’s WiFi network since the Airport Express acts as a repeater station. That’s all well and dandy, but the price tag of $400, plus $100 for the Express, and you’re talking about a serious dent in your wallet.
Not deterred by the price tag? You can snag one at Amazon right now. Though you might wanna opt for a portable speaker from Philips or Jawbone.
