The idea of a Spherical Flying machine may not be all that exciting at first blush, but if you hit the above video you’ll see that it is in fact an extremely agile aircraft. Unlike a quadricopter, or more importantly a helicopter, this machine can travel forward using wings. Conversely, it can land at any angle thanks to its spherical shape and roll around on the ground using the rotors to power it in any direction.
The machine was developed by Japan’s Ministiry of Defense for a little over $1000. And while it appears to be largely a prototype, we can’t help but wonder if they’ll develop a version large enough for a human to fit inside.
