Garmin Forerunner 610-2

Grew up back East, got sick of the cold and headed West. Since I was small I have been pushing buttons - both electronic and human. With an insatiable need for tech I thought "why not start a blog focusing on technology, and use my dislikes and likes to post on gadgets."

  1. I love, love, love my Garmin 610, but I am on my second watch, as the pin kept slipping out of the band on the first watch I had. I also know of a fellow runner who lost his Garmin 610, as the pin slipped out while running. I am interested to know if any fellow runners have had the same experience?

    • My wife and I each have the 610 and are having “pin” problems where the band falls off. So far it hasn’t resulted in disaster, but it’s disconcerting. This problem is being reported all over the internet. I just sent a customer support email to Garmin and I’ll see what they say.

Does the GPS signal work anywhere in the world? I live in Australia…does this affect any of the features ability to work at all?

GPS should work any where in the world assuming you can be seen by the satellite (i.e. dense forest, etc).

      • If you travel for work like I do, be careful if you are in major cities. I usually set my watch to track me from a starting point so I can find my way back. But, with tall buildings, my Garmin sometimes loses me, resulting in me getting lost.

  3. People, I just bought a Garmin 610 and on 02/22 I transferred my first data, it worked just fine. Today (02/22) I am trying to transfer new data and it just does not work :-(   . It is pretty strange because 2 days ago it did work fine, now it does not anymore. The ANT keeps searching for device e doesn’t find anything. Can you help me ?

I bought this watch when it first came out around April.  It’s awesome!  I would recommend any runner to take the plunge and buy it.  The price isn’t for the faint of heart, but it is worth EVERY dollar.  You can track everything with this watch and easily upload it to the web.  And the main feature that won me over was the customizable vibration alerts, allowing me to do interval training while listening to music without having to constantly look at the watch.  I expect to be using this thing for years to come.
