The world of military weaponry is both scary and intriguing.  On one hand you’ve got a piece of kit that can do some serious damage and ultimately cause all sorts of hardship, not the least of them being casualties.  On the other hand it’s amazing what science has achieved over the years in terms of shear physics.

General Atomics has just moved one step closer to achieving a working and usable rail gun system.  Thanks to a Boeing, who designed and built the latest round, which looks like a mini rocket, GA was able to fire their super aerodynamic dart over 4 miles after penetrating a 1/8″ steel plate.  The below footage is pretty uncanny to say the least as they’re able to track the darts movement traveling at Mach 5.
