95%, if not more of you reading this post will never need to buy a professional grade, or prosumer camcorder. However, if you happen to be in the market for such a tool, then you should take a close look at Sony’s $5,850 NEXFS100U Super 35mm NXCAM camcorder. At that price point it comes sans lens, but it does utilize the companies e-lens mounting system which makes various lens manufacturers (Sony Zeiss, Tamron, Sigma and Cosina) compatible.
Sony is pushing the NEXFS100U “unusually shallow flange focal distance”, which is their way of saying that you can produce a professional film like shot – you know with the subject in focus and the background blurred.
But that’s the least of this camera’s feature set. It can capture 1920×1080 HD video at 60fps, shoot in a variety of frame rates, HDMI output with embedded time code, record to a 128GB SSD for up to 10hours of HD video while simultaneously capturing to an SD card and display all its glory on a built-in 3.5-inch LCD display. At this price you’ll get the camcorder, shotgun mic and viewfinder. But as previously mentioned the lens pictured above, worth $700, will cost you extra.
