This week Samsung showed off a 55-inch 3D LCD TV, viewable without the need for glasses, at FPD China 2011. According to TechOn! the optimal viewing distance is 2.5-6 meters and users will have the option to switch between 2D and 3D, much like Nintendo’s 3Ds, though it’s not clear if the user will be able to vary the intensity of the 3D.
Specs are relatively norm for the 55-inch display, boasting a 1920×1080 resolution, 500 cd/m2 brightness and a 4000:1 contrast ratio. The prototype uses a a direct-lit CCFL, however Samsung says they’ll likely replace that with LEDs when it comes to market in 3 year’s time.
