A blue headset. Huh. Who’da thunk?

Steelseries was very kind and, along with the Siberia Neckband (which I thought, and still think, is great), sent over the Grammy Awards edition of the Siberia V2 headset. What’s so special about it? Well…it’s blue. Otherwise it’s the same as the previous models. It looks pretty cool regardless, undoubtedly a pleasant change in color schemes compared to all black, all white, or a mix for contrast.

When I put the Siberia V2s on for the first time, they were comfortable. Even with the round shape (which doesn’t match ears, unless you’re Mickey Mouse), the over-size cans fit snug over the ear and aren’t tight, but comfortable. The headband rests gently on the head without being obstructive or annoying, and helps support the weight of the headset. I sat with them for a good two hours and felt no discomfort before writing these first impressions.

It’s not a surround headset, which Steelseries doesn’t do (something we’ll touch on at a later time), but the sound quality thus far has been great. It’s on par with the Siberia Neckband, which is to say very good to excellent. My only concern after just a few hours of use is the lack of noise cancellation. The cans are loose, which is great for comfort, but they’re also lightweight and don’t protect from ambient noise. I can hear the goings on in the next room over even with the volume jacked up. But we’ll see.
