Porsche 918 RSR Unleashed, Terrorizes Detroit (video)
The Detroit Motor Show is under way and with it came the unveiling of the Porsche 918 RSR, a hybrid super car that takes design cues from the 917 and technology from last year’s Porsche 911 GT3 RS hybrid.
The rear wheels are driven by a mid-mounted 4.5-liter V8 gasoline engine that kicks out 565 hp. The front wheels, which work in concert with their counterparts to achieve 4-wheel drive, are powered by a pair of brushless electric motors and produce a combined 202 hp. That’s a total of 767 hp. On board is not only a gasoline tank, but an advanced kinetic-energy-recovery system (KERS) flywheel, which creates energy under braking and brief periods of overrun to power the electric motors.
