iFan Case Charges Your iPhone With 6 Hours Of Wind Gusts
A case with a repurposed computer fan blade that charges your iPhone using just the power of wind sounds like a good idea, but with further review we think not. Why? First off wind is generally outside and that means your iPhone will have to be exposed to the same elements. If it’s windy enough to charge the phone then it’s probably windy enough to lodge, at the very least, some debris in your handset. Second, the fan is fixed to the bottom of the case, at least in this design. That means you’ll have to stand into the wind holding the iPhone to glean the wind’s energy.
Nonetheless, we’re very impressed with the designer, Tjeerd Veenhoven, innovative skills. He re-purposed a computer’s fan blade and fitted it into a rubber molding that wraps around the iPhone – all completed on his own. He says that he “can shave off many charging hours by redesigning the fan blades”, such that they capture the wind more efficiently. Might we suggest some solar panels on the back, which would further decrease charging time.
We think we’ll stick with the Hymini, though that might not be able to charge the iPhone in just 6 hours on wind power alone.
