With a name like Roomba, the familiar robot vacuum cleaner conjures up images of uninhibited dancing and vrooming performance.
When it comes to the the window-washing Windro, that’s not what you want. The concept is cool, clean windows are good, but with a robot that’s perilously hanging from your outside windows, you just hope that slow and steady wins the day.
But the Windro is just a working concept, nothing commercial yet. Built by scientists from the Pohang Institute of Intelligent Robotics – that’s in South Korea for those of you not up to date with Robotics Institutes – the acrobatic window washer is made up of two modules. One on the inside and one on the outside, sticking together using magnets and probably coordinating their movements.
