Bluetooth can be useful for proximity alerts. The Bringrr device insures that you don’t forget your cell phone in the car and the iWallet keeps tabs on, whatelse, your wallet. But what about your every day bag or purse?
The Blue Watchdog is a credit card sized device that pairs with your smartphone’s Bluetooth connection. You slip it inside your purse and using the magic of Bluetooth, plus an app runing in the background it keeps tabs on your bags proximity. If the bag (i.e. the device) exits the smartphone’s proximity ranging from 1 to 30m (user preset) it emits an excruciating 100db tone that will have criminals dropping the goods and fleeing the seen of the crime.
The device is fully rechargeable by wall wart of USB plug and has a 120 hour standby time. So you’ll need to remember to recharge it after a few days of use and you’ll also need to keep your smarthphone on your person, not in the bag your protecting, otherwise it will be rendered useless. Even worse, your mobile phone could be stolen, which in turn will make you look like the thief.
The Blue Watchdog is said to be compatible with 80% of mobile phones on the market today and is available now for about $95 US.
