In what could be a big shift in how we buy booze, the very first wine vending machines have finally arrived stateside in Pennsylvania. Now, before you or college students think you can just go in at 2 in the morning wasted and pick out some Charles Shaw, there’s restrictions to the machine: after ordering your selection via a touchscreen display, you need to swipe your driver’s license or state ID, then blow into a breathlyzer while having your picture taken. An employee then remotely verifies that you’re the person on the ID and that you’re not already drunk, and the transaction is completed. If these machines do well, we’ll probably see them expanded to other parts of the country. So, good/bad idea? What do you think?
