Goggles with a HUD, that’s so last year. GPS touchscreen, please. Springteq’s WeGo GPS unit boasts an ultra bright projector that can display a HUD (heads up display) directly onto your windshield. The advantages are completely clear, quite literally since you’ll be able to view your upcoming turn without taking your eyes off the road for a split second, although it should still be considered a distraction.
The image appears 3.3 feet in front of the driver and uses a projector that features a 13,000 cd/m2 brightness, 500:1 contrast ratio and 400×240 resolution. There is a built-in ambient light sensor so it automatically knows how bright to make the image, and a cigarette light adapter powers the whole unit. The system is built upon Windows CE, includes 2GB of storage which is expandable via a SDHC card slot. An RF remote controls the unit, which begs the question of how difficult or easy is it to input address info without a touchscreen interface?
Right now there are no deets on the price or availability, but Springteq says they’ll annnounce more info, along with a mini version, sometime in Q4 of this year.
