It was just weeks ago that Microsoft launched the Kin devices and sadly they’ve already killed the product line. At least that is according to a source close with the project. If the tail is true the Kin team will be merged with the Windows 7 Mobile team. Apparently, Microsoft sold just 500 of the Kins, which might be partially blamed on the costly and required data plan, but that number hasn’t been confirmed and nor do we expect it to be. Who knows how long the handsets were in development, but millions were probably spent on development, marketing and research. Having worked at a startup sometimes it’s difficult to see the writing on the wall. I know I could have told you the Kin never would have been a massive success, but a complete and utter failure is pretty surprising. The future of all handsets seems to be Android or Apple, so how Windows 7 Mobile will succeed has yet to be seen. Sure, Palm was bought by HP but they’re probably gonna stick with netbook or tablet like devices and Nokia has to concede at some point and adopt the Android OS, right?
